It’s Time to Renew your Membership

2012 is a BIG year for us Democrats!

We have the June Primary and November General elections to work on,
and our focus in Torrance will be electing Al Muratsuchi to the 66th AD
and keeping the South Bay BLUE!!

To that end, we need your support and participation!
First, your support can come through your annual renewal
of your club membership, which is due now.

What are the Dues Rates?

  • $25 – single membership
  • $40 – 2 member household

How Can I Pay my Dues?

Remember, even if you don’t want to come to a meeting, renewing your membership provides the funds for continuing the work of the club.

Thanks for being part of this exciting effort in 2012 to turn the South Bay bright blue!

Thank you Congressman Waxman!

On Monday, around 150 Dems from 4 area clubs welcomed Congressman Henry Waxman to the South Bay.

It will be great to have him represent us in November in the new CA-33
congressional district (coastal LA).

Congressman Waxman and Torrance Dems

Rep. Waxman, (center) with the Presidents of the 4 Democratic Club co-sponsors - Diane Wallace, Beach Cities; Jimmy Gow, Torrance; Al Lay, LAX-Area; and Connie Sullivan, PVP.

Each of us want to thank everyone that made this event possible!
I’d like to think we can do this again before November.

Afternoon with Al was a big success!

From Al Muratsuchi:
To my friends at the Torrance Democratic Club,
Thank you so much for the wonderful fundraiser
at the beautiful home of Windy and Marty Harris.
The event was a grand success by all measures.
Everyone had a great time, the event was classy,
and the monies raised will give our campaign a big boost
toward keeping the 66th AD and the South Bay BLUE!!
Thanks to all who attended, and special thanks to Jill, Jimmy,
and Varo for working so hard to make the event a success!
Wishing everyone a Happy Thanksgiving,
Al Muratsuchi

From Jimmy Gow:
To everybody that made calls, or sent e-mails, or passed out flyers, sent in a RSVP or made a contribution, please accept my biggest “THANK YOU” for making our “An Afternoon with Al” event a huge success!

From the event planning by our VP, Jill Gilligan, to the catering of Carlos De Alba (elegantdecorations.com) everyone did a great job.
Not to overlook the generosity of our hosts Marty & Windy Harris
for opening up their home to us. Or the graciousness of guests like Cliff Numark who introduced Al Muratsuchi to the crowd.
We had over 40 people in attendance and including a generous contribution from the Beach Cities Democratic Club, raised over $4,000 for Al’s campaign for the 66th Assembly seat.

If you missed it, you can still go to:
https://secure.actblue.com/page/torrancedemsforal
to make a donation, or you can still Click here to access the contribution form, print it out, fill it out & mail-in a check.
Attached are a few photos from the event & below I’ve forwarded info about your next opportunity (Dec. 1) to attend a fundraising event for Al.

Keep up the good work!
Thanks,
Jimmy Gow
President, Torrance Democratic Club

November Meeting – Saturday, November 12 @ 3PM

An Afternoon with Al at the fabulous Harris residence in Redondo Beach!

Click here to download the flyer for this event.

If you are reading this, and you missed the October meeting, DON”T miss this one!

NOW, what you do need to know is, that this time, this meeting will be
a FUNDRAISER for Al!
Go to our SPECIAL ActBlue page to contribute to Al’s campaign…
https://secure.actblue.com/page/torrancedemsforal

Our suggested donation for this special occasion is $100.
(But you can contribute as much as $3900.)
Contributing at the “Torrance Dems for Al” page at ActBlue
will secure your RSVP to this event!
(Space is limited, and will fill up fast, so get your RSVP in soon!)

This will be your opportunity to mix & mingle with other Dem club members,
and meet & greet the various elected officials from the South Bay and beyond
who will be in attendance.

And, if you didn’t get a chance to ask Al your question at the last meeting,
the good news is, this one will be JUST for socializing – no business agenda – so
you’ll have a couple of hours to chat and get the answer to your query.
Just RSVP at https://secure.actblue.com/page/torrancedemsforal
or go to our website, TorranceDems.com, and follow the link.

If you prefer, the attached “contribution form” can be used to print-out, fill-out, mail-in a check. Click here to access the contribution form.

Everyone from what will be California’s new 66th Assembly District
(including Torrance, PVP, Gardena Valley, Lomita & the Beach Cities)
should plan to be there to meet (and contribute to) our Democratic candidate.
Remember, the 66th AD is a SWING district, (one of only 5 out of 80 in CA)
therefore, for the South Bay, it’s “the ONLY race that matters!”

You can get more info about Al – top vote-getter when re-elected to the
Torrance School Board in 2009 – at www.ALforAssembly.com

But first get your RSVP in at
https://secure.actblue.com/page/torrancedemsforal

See you there.

October Club Meeting

Appetizers with Al

It is my honor to present a special evening with our guest speaker Al Muratsuchi,

When: Monday, October 24, at 7:00pm!

What: This is a great opportunity for Dem clubs in what will be California’s new for the  66th Assembly District (including Torrance, PVP, Gardena Valley, Lomita & the Beach Cities) to meet our Democratic candidate. Some of us may know that Al was the top vote-getter when he was re-elected and served as President on the Torrance School Board in 2009.

For all of us, this will be our chance to hear Al speak about his plans for the 66th AD and join in a Q & A session with him. You can also go to al4assembly.org to find a brief bio.

Where: So please join us at 7pm for appetizers at Arjay Plaza, 3rd floor, 23211 Hawthorne Blvd., Torrance, CA, 90505
(at corner of Lomita Blvd.)

See you there,

Jimmy Gow

Sign up for Vote-by-Mail

For a lot of us, Sample Ballots have arrived for Nov. 8th elections.
There are School District, City, County, Local & Municipal races,
and this is an opportunity to request an absentee ballot!

Here’s how:

On the back of the Sample Ballot is the APPLICATION TO VOTE BY MAIL.

Look for the box in the upper-right-hand corner that says “Check box for Permanent Vote By Mail Status.” Check the box! Tear off the card, put on a stamp and mail it in. If you do, in the future, you can STILL vote in-person if you want, but you can also fill in your ballot in the comfort of your home & just mail it in.

It’s so EASY!
(No lines. No parking hassles. No location confusion.  No “I’ll be out-of-town” on election day worries.)
And early voting is great for Democratic GOTV campaigns because they can count your vote right away and take you off the CALL list.

So, check the box and make your vote count, early!
