Presidents message: Happy New Year! We have many interesting developments in politics to discuss, at all levels, from local to international. The California primary elections are coming up. The 36th CD primary challenge has achieved national prominence, with Henry Waxman weighing in. If you haven’t already done so, now is the time to renew your annual membership in the Torrance Democratic Club. Individual dues are $20 and family membership is $30.
As expected, California Senate Bill 810 (the California Universal Healthcare Act) advanced in the California Senate. Click on the Universal Healthcare link - the Press Release and a 2-page Fact Sheet explaining SB 810. All Democrats voted in favor, with the exception of Alquist who was absent due to illness, Wright who abstained and Correa who opposed. All Republicans opposed, except Huff who was off of the floor at the time but had spoken in opposition earlier in the Debate.
